And just in case the more rhythmic feel wasn’t enough, he slows things down to a slow dance-ready groove near the track’s end before closing out with a smoothed-out sax solo to get you open.Check out the storytelling visuals “i do”, the first single from musiq’s upcoming new album, life on earth. “You just need someone to love you / Might not be today, but I’m gon’ find my way into your heart,” he sings on the chorus, later adding, “Sooner or later you’ve got to let me be the one.” His charm and enthusiasm are back by solid production and musical arrangement, with horns, synths and stacked vocals providing harmonies that would make it hard for anyone to say no. But rather than be that annoying brother who won’t leave women be, he opts for the persistent route. However, it seems that our boy isn’t taking her “no” as a solid answer. “You say I’m not what you’re looking for / Think I’m just another n***a runnin’ game,” he spits to a woman who’s weary about giving love another go. As the drums and percussion set the pace and the keys and guitar provide the melody, Musiq slides right in to make his case. The track starts off with a funky syncopated groove that lets you know this won’t be your typical sappy love groove. He slips into that role once again for “Sooner Or Later,” the latest track released from his upcoming album Feel The Real, and, unsurprisingly, he works his magic once again.
Though he’s changed his style up here and there over the years, Musiq Soulchild seems to always revisit the role of a lovestruck hopeful in pursuit of “the one.” It’s one that suits him well, as his expressive lyrics and emotive vocals always expertly capture the feeling of being captivated by the potential prototype.
